How To Play *Star: Rules Summary
Setup
- First, open the box and find the game board, stars, player tokens, and cards. If you find an old grocery receipt, that’s mine. Sorry.
- Next, each player picks a color and grabs the matching tokens and stars. No arguing over who gets blue. You know who you are.
- Shuffle the cards and place them face down in the center. Nobody peek. Yes, I’m looking at you, Tim.
- Place the star tiles in a pile within reach of everyone. If you have T-rex arms, ask for help.
- Finally, pick a player to go first. We usually pick whoever most recently spilled a drink.
Gameplay
- To start, the first player draws a card and follows its instructions. The rest do the same in turn order.
- Place or move your star tokens according to your card. You can’t stack stars. We tried. It ended in disaster.
- Strategically use your moves to block others or grab bonus points spots. Grudges may form. That’s part of the fun.
- Play continues clockwise, with each player drawing cards then placing or moving stars.
- If you ever run out of stars, perform a happy dance. You’re doing well!
Winning
- As soon as a player places their last star on the board, everyone gets one more turn. Yes, even if you’re sitting there pouting.
- After the final round, count up all your stars on scoring spaces. Don’t let your dog eat the stars.
- The player with the most points wins *Star! If you tie, both winners must do their best celebratory pose.
Special Rules & Conditions
- If a card tells you to remove a star, you must do so—even if it ruins your master plan. Trust me, it happens often.
- Landing on bonus spaces gives extra points, but you must announce it with jazz hands.
- If two players try to claim the same spot, the one who makes the best pun gets it. House rules, sorry.
- Breaking a rule means you lose a turn. Yes, even accidental trip-ups. Fair is fair!
And there you go! That’s How To Play *Star. Even my uncle Gary managed it after three tries, and he once confused a banana for a phone. Jump in and enjoy the chaos!
