How To Play The Veil: Rules Summary

Setup

Before starting, gather your friends and prepare to embark on a mystical adventure.

  1. Each player chooses a character card and corresponding deck.
  2. Shuffle the main deck and place it in the center of the table.
  3. Deal five cards to each player from their personal decks.
  4. Decide who goes first. We always make the youngest player start, which makes my uncle feel his age.

Gameplay

This game puts you right in the action, and you’ll feel your brain cells working overtime!

  1. Draw a card from your deck at the start of your turn.
  2. Play one card from your hand. This could involve casting spells, summoning creatures, or just thinking really hard.
  3. Follow the action on the card, whether it means attacking, defending, or building up resources. Personally, I’m a fan of the cards that let me mess with my opponents’ strategies.
  4. After playing a card, discard it unless it’s an ongoing effect.

Winning

Everyone loves winning, right? Here’s how you can rub it in your friends’ faces.

  1. The player who first reaches 15 victory points wins.
  2. Alternatively, if a player’s deck is exhausted, the game ends and the player with the most victory points wins. I’ve seen friends get dangerously close, only to come up short in the end because of an empty deck.

Special Rules & Conditions

Because no game is complete without some weird rules to make it more complicated!

  1. If a card causes you to lose a turn, skip your next turn. Use the time wisely to plot revenge.
  2. Some cards are unique and can only be played once per game. We learned this the hard way when I tried to repeat the same winning move twice. Oops!
  3. If a tie occurs in victory points, the player with the most resource cards wins. So hoard those babies like they’re going out of style.
