How To Play The Hunger: Rules Summary

Setup

First, give each player a Vampire pawn, their starting deck, and a reference card.
Then, shuffle the main deck and place it next to the board.
After that, put all tokens and markers within reach. Set up roses, quests, and treasure tokens on the board as shown in the rulebook.
Now, place the cemetery tiles and randomize the board tiles. Make sure everyone sits where they can reach their pawn!

Gameplay

To start your turn, draw three cards from your deck. Sometimes, it’s a blessing. Sometimes, it’s garlic breath. Good luck!
Play all three cards, using movement points, collecting resource tokens, or recruiting new cards.
Next, if you stop on a space with prey, you eat it (sometimes with regret, especially the spicy ones).
After your action, discard used cards and draw another three. If your deck runs out, shuffle your discards and keep going.
Pay attention to the hunger track! Too much hunger, and you might not get home by sunrise. Every turn, the sun rises further…

Winning

To win, you need the most points by the end of the 15th round—but only if your Vampire made it back to the castle!
If your pawn is outside the castle at sunrise, you burn to dust and can’t win, no matter how many tasty villagers you nibbled.

Special Rules & Conditions

Some cards have special effects. Read them out loud so everyone can be jealous (or terrified).
If you get stuck, you may spend a rose to move an extra space—romantic and practical!
Watch out for hidden quests! These can swing the game, especially if you like surprises.
Finally, if you tie on points, the Vampire who ate the most noble prey wins. If you tied on that, do a victory dance. You both deserve it.
