How To Play: Simplicity

Simplicity is a fun, easy-to-learn game that my friends and I can't stop playing. Manage resources, play smart card combos, and make your moves at just the right time. With the How To Play simplicity tips, you'll have a blast and maybe even win (unlike me last Saturday).

Overview

So there I was, desperately clutching my last resource token in Simplicity, hoping my friends wouldn’t notice I’d messed up my whole plan. If you’ve ever wondered how not to look foolish at game night, this guide’s for you. I’ll break down the game rules (yes, even the sneaky bits), and share the best strategies for actual victory. How To Play simplicity is about to get real simple—and fun!

What’s in the box

  • 1 Game Board
  • 100 Resource Tokens
  • 60 Action Cards
  • 4 Player Boards
  • 20 Wooden Meeples
  • 4 Score Markers
  • 1 Rulebook

How To Play Simplicity: Rules Summary

Setup
  1. Place the main board in the center of your table. Make sure it’s not upside down—unless you like a challenge.
  2. Give each player a starter set: 5 resource tokens, 3 basic cards, and 1 wild token. If you get extra tokens, that’s called cheating.
  3. Shuffle the main deck and deal 3 cards face up to the market row. Put the rest nearby. Try not to spill your coffee on them.
  4. Each player draws 3 cards from their own deck to form their starting hand.
  5. Decide who goes first by seeing who can say “Simplicity” the fastest. Or just pick the tallest person. Whatever works.
Gameplay
  1. On your turn, draw a card and add it to your hand. If your deck is empty, reshuffle your discard pile. Yes, you have to do this. No complaining.
  2. Play up to 2 cards from your hand. Cards can gain you resources, let you steal from your buddies, or grab new cards from the market.
  3. Spend resources to buy cards from the market. The pricier the card, the fancier you’ll feel.
  4. End your turn by discarding any used cards. Pass play to the left—you know, like a polite human.
Winning
  1. The game ends as soon as a player collects 10 victory points. Or as soon as your dog eats the rulebook, whichever comes first.
  2. Add up your points. Whoever has the most is the champion of Simplicity, and gets to brag for at least 48 hours.
Special Rules & Conditions
  1. If you draw a wild card, immediately perform its effect. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s chaos. Isn’t life fun?
  2. If the market row is empty, refill it at the end of your turn. Don’t leave it bare unless you’re planning a minimalist party.
  3. In case of a tie, everyone involved must play a sudden death round. Or you could just share the victory and split the last cookie.

Once you’ve played a round, you’ll see the How To Play simplicity aspect makes it easy to pick up, but clever twists keep everyone on their toes. Enjoy, and may the simplest player win!

Best Simplicity Strategies

Get Smart With Your Stuff: Resource Management Basics

Track Everything (Even Your Least Favorite Pieces)

If you want to win Simplicity, you can’t ignore resources. Count them up, keep an eye on what’s left, and never let your supply hit zero. Trust me, I’ve learned this the hard way.

  1. Always check your stock after every turn.
  2. Pace your spending, don’t get flashy too soon.

Plan Ahead Like a Psychic (Almost)

Now, always plan your next two moves. This helps you avoid getting stuck. Plus, it stops your friend Greg from stealing your plan… again!

  1. Predict what you’ll need next round.
  2. Avoid waste by only grabbing what you need.

Spend, But Save

Lastly, while it’s fun to splash out, keep a little tucked away. You never know when you’ll need a last-minute buy.

  1. Leave a reserve for surprise moves.
  2. Use your turn to set up a future bonus.

That’s How To Play simplicity and not end up broke before the finish!

The Secret Sauce in Simplicity: Card Combo Mayhem!

Alright, let’s get real. If you want to win Simplicity, you must master card combos. After many heated games (and a few shameful losses), I know that sweet combos are the shortcut to glory. But what combos work best? Here’s what I found:

1. Chaining for Max Value

  1. Play value-boosting cards before multipliers for explosive turns.
  2. Always check your hand for possible combo chains.

2. Disrupt and Build

  1. Pair attack cards with steal abilities—always funny, always effective.
  2. Time these to ruin an opponent’s perfect plan.

3. Endgame Power Plays

  1. Save point-doublers for the last moment, when the table least expects it.
  2. Combine with draw cards to fish out your winning move.

After all, knowing How To Play simplicity is only half the battle. Exploding your points with combos is how you really crush your friends’ dreams—trust me, my buddy Dave still isn’t speaking to me after last game.

Mastering Timing and Turn Order in Simplicity

Watch Your Opponents Like a Hawk
  1. Pay attention to what they pick and when.
  2. Predict their next move to snag the best spot.
  3. Take notes—mental or on the back of your hand.
Pick Your Moment
  1. Grab high-value actions just before someone else can.
  2. Don’t rush—wait if you think others will do your dirty work.
  3. If you see a big chance, don’t hesitate. Jump!
Turn Order Tricks
  1. If you can control turn order, do it. Always.
  2. Sometimes, it’s better to go last and clean up.
  3. But other times, first pick gives you the edge. Read the room!

How To Play simplicity really shines when you figure out when to strike and when to hold back. My friends learned this the hard way when I swooped in for the win last week.
