Overview

Shadow Hunters is a game where you try to figure out who’s on your team while also trying not to get hit in the head with an axe. My friends and I played so much we started accusing each other of being Shadows even at breakfast. How To Play Shadow Hunters: Rules Summary

Setup

1. Shuffle character, Hermit, Black, White, and Area cards separately.
2. Give each player a random character card, keeping it secret. Deal the matching health tracker marker and character sheet.
3. Set the health marker to full health for each player.
4. Deal three Area cards face up in the center of the table.
5. Place Black, White, and Hermit decks close by. Make sure everyone has room for cards and emotional damage.

Gameplay

1. On your turn, roll two dice and move to the matching Area card. If you get doubles, pick any Area you want. You little rebel, you.
2. Do the action listed on the Area card. This usually means drawing from a deck or healing. Sometimes you just annoy a friend, which is always fun.
3. If told to attack, pick a target in your Area and roll dice. Damage equals the difference between the two dice. Hope for big differences, not big friendships.
4. You may also use Hermit cards to give mysterious notes to other players. Pass it face down and giggle suspiciously.
5. End your turn. Try not to give away your secret role by looking too guilty.

Winning

1. Each team—Shadow, Hunter, and Neutrals—has its own win condition. Check your character card and act accordingly.
2. Shadows win by wiping out all Hunters. Hunters win by defeating all Shadows. Neutrals are wild and win by meeting their own unique goals, like being the ultimate pest.
3. If you reach your goal, declare victory with the appropriate amount of smugness.

Special Rules & Conditions

1. If your health goes to zero, reveal your character and leave the game. But don’t cry—it happens to the best of us.
2. Some cards and characters have special abilities. Don’t forget them! Or do, and blame the loss on poor memory.
3. If only Neutrals are left, compare completed win conditions to see who wins. Or just arm wrestle for the trophy.
