How To Play Flourish: Rules Summary

Setup

1. Each player picks a garden board. No, you can’t pick your neighbor’s, even if they have nicer colors.
2. Shuffle the deck of garden cards and give 6 cards to every player. Try not to drop them all on the floor like I did.
3. Place the remaining deck in the middle, next to the point tokens and Flourish tokens. Resist the urge to use the tokens as poker chips.

Gameplay

1. On your turn, pick one card from your hand to play in your garden. Place it in front of you, face up—this is your garden’s new addition!
2. Pick two cards from your hand to pass—one to your left neighbor, one to your right. These cards could help them, but hopefully they don’t.
3. Draw back up to 6 cards from the deck. If you forget, expect to get called out by everyone else.
4. Repeat these steps over three rounds (or seasons). Each round is a gardening rollercoaster, trust me.

Winning

1. At the end of each season, score your garden. Count up your points for flowers, features, and matching patterns. Don’t cry if you get outscored.
2. After the final season, tally all points—including those secret Flourish tokens if you played with them!
3. The player with the most points wins and becomes the ultimate garden overlord. Or at least, the most smug at the table.

Special Rules & Conditions

1. If you forget a rule, just agree on something and carry on. The garden police won’t come after you.
2. Some cards have special effects. Always read them out loud, unless your dog understands them better than your friends.
3. Ties are broken by the number of unique features in your garden. If you’re still tied, share the victory—or a snack.
