How To Play Devil’s Den: Rules Summary
Setup
- Unfold the board and lay it flat. Make sure your cat doesn’t claim it first — mine almost did!
- Give each player a set of pieces (Devils, Minions, Traps, and Resources), matching their chosen color.
- Place Devils in their den, located at the corners of the board. Minions stand guard right outside the den. Traps and Resources start in a pile near each player.
- Shuffle the event cards and hand out two to each player.
- Pick a starting player—oldest person, or who can grow the best villainous mustache.
Gameplay
- On your turn, first draw an event card, then move either a Devil or Minion.
- You can place a Trap or spend Resources after moving.
- If you bump into another player’s piece, battle! Use the dice to decide who wins the scuffle.
- Collect Resources by landing on tiles with Resource icons.
- Once per turn, you may swap one event card with another player—if you dare!
Winning
- The player who collects 5 Golden Skulls and returns them to their den wins the game. Trust me, it feels as glorious as it sounds.
- If all other players lose their Devils, the last player standing wins by default. It’s a devilish twist.
Special Rules & Conditions
- If two players tie in battle, they each lose a Resource (snacks may not be used as resources, sorry Dave).
- Event cards can always be played out of turn if it says so—watch for ‘Surprise Attack’, it ruined my lunch break last week.
- If you run out of Traps, you can spend two Resources to reclaim them at your den.
- Once someone has only one Devil left, all movement counts double until the end.
If you follow these steps, you’ll know How To Play devil’s den in no time. Just watch out for sneaky moves, and don’t underestimate your grandma—she wiped the floor with us last Sunday!
