How To Play Astra: Rules Summary
Setup
- Give each player a marker, an observation tile, and a starting star card. Trust me, you want your own marker. Sharing marker pens gets ugly fast.
- Shuffle the star cards, then make a face-up row in the center of the table.
- Put the stardust tokens and discovery tokens nearby, because someone will definitely forget where they are.
- Give everyone 2 stardust. Whoever most recently looked at the stars goes first. This rule caused a loud debate last game night.
Gameplay
- On your turn, choose: gain stardust, mark a star, or do a discovery. Simple! Unless you’re like me and forget what turn it is while thinking about snacks.
- If you mark a star, use your marker to color in a star dot on any card in front of you. Not your friend’s. They’ll notice.
- To mark a star, pay the cost in stardust written on the card. You can’t just wish it.
- Once you finish a constellation (all stars marked), claim the card and its points. But don’t brag! (Actually, do. It’s satisfying.)
- Replace any claimed cards with a new face-up star card from the row. Keep the galaxy full.
Winning
- Keep playing until the star card deck runs out. You’ll know because everyone will start panicking.
- Total up your points from star cards, discoveries, and any leftover stardust. If you have negative points, that’s on you!
- The player with the most points wins and gets bragging rights for the night. Or until the next game starts and you lose at something else.
Special Rules & Conditions
- Some star cards have special symbols. Read these out loud so no one cheats (looking at you, Dave).
- If a dispute breaks out over a rule, check the rulebook or just rock-paper-scissors for it. This is house law.
- Markers must be capped when not in use, unless you want your table to become a nebula.
There you go! That’s How To Play Astra in a nutshell. Even my cousin Becky, who once tried to color her hand instead of the game card, figured it out. So have fun, collect those stars, and watch out for sneaky friends!
