9 Best Zombie Board Games for Thrills, Chills, and Laughs

So, you want to play a zombie board game but don’t know where to start? We’ve played our fair share of games where the undead shamble, bite, and sometimes even roll dice. For this list, we picked zombie games that are easy for new players to learn, keep the action moving, and always pack a punch—whether you’re fighting for survival, outsmarting your friends, or just trying not to get eaten. If you’re just starting your zombie journey, these picks will help you jump right in—no chainsaw required!

On this list:

9 Zombie Dice

We love Zombie Dice because it’s ridiculously easy to pick up and you can play it almost anywhere, even in the back of a haunted van. You are a zombie trying to eat brains and not get blasted by shotguns. It’s a push-your-luck game that leads to lots of wild, silly moments—even your grandma might cackle when you push too far and lose all your brains. We picked this because it’s perfect for new players and a great way to start any zombie game night. Plus, the game is small enough to fit in your pocket, perfect for any surprise undead outbreaks.

8 Zombie Kidz Evolution

  • Play Time: 15 minutes

We put Zombie Kidz Evolution on our list because it’s a hit with families and new gamers. This is a cooperative game where you play as kids defending your school from waves of adorable (but terrifying) zombies. Every win lets you open stickers and unlock new rules, which makes everyone cheer like they’ve won the lottery. It’s easy to learn, so you won’t be flipping through a rulebook while the zombies overrun your playground. Great for kids, but honestly we’ve played at grownup game nights and no one complained.

7 Dead of Winter: A Crossroads Game

  • Age Range: 14+
  • Players: 2-5
  • Play Time: 60-120 minutes

Dead of Winter makes the list for being one of the tensest zombie games we’ve played. It’s not just about fighting zombies, but surviving the winter, managing food, and wondering if your friend across the table is planning to sell the colony out for a Snickers bar. There’s a traitor element, which leads to some good-natured yelling and suspicious glances. The story cards make every game different. If you like drama and you like zombies, this is your game. Just remember, in our group, no one trusts Gary any more.

6 Zombicide

  • Play Time: 60 minutes

Zombicide is pure popcorn action, and we always come back for more. It’s easy to teach, and every player gets to stomp through zombie-filled streets with a handful of wild weapons. The game is cooperative, so it’s perfect for new players who don’t like to lose friends over board games. There are lots of expansions and miniatures, so the table looks amazing. We’ve had some of our most epic, last-second victories (and funny defeats) with this one. Pick this if you love straightforward zombie-bashing fun.

5 Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game

  • Age Range: 12+
  • Players: 2-6
  • Play Time: 60-90 minutes

Last Night on Earth feels like playing in your own cheesy zombie movie. One of us plays the zombies, the others are survivors, and the scenarios have all the classic tropes—like grabbing the keys to the truck or escaping the high school. The game comes with a CD soundtrack that’s pure B-movie goodness, but we also make our own sound effects (zombie moans are harder than you think). It’s great for groups of all skill levels and feels different each play.

4 Tiny Epic Zombies

  • Age Range: 14+
  • Players: 1-5
  • Play Time: 30-45 minutes

Tiny Epic Zombies packs all the zombie action into a box small enough to fit in your pocket. You can play solo or with friends, and the game lets you be either the survivors or the zombies. It has cool plastic motorcycles and a mall board that’s always full of chaos. We love how fast it sets up and how you never quite know who will walk out of the mall alive. This is a great choice for anyone who likes a portable game with big strategy.

3 City of Horror

  • Age Range: 13+
  • Players: 3-6
  • Play Time: 60-90 minutes

City of Horror is here because it makes us argue, beg, and laugh the entire game. You are trying to survive a city filled with zombies, but the trick is you have to convince the other players to help you. You’ll have to betray your friends or make deals to stay alive (trust us, we still remind Dave about that time he left us behind). It’s all about negotiation, and every round is a hilarious scramble. If you love talking your way out of doom, this zombie game is for you.

2 Zombie Fluxx

  • Age Range: 8+
  • Players: 2-6
  • Play Time: 10-40 minutes

Zombie Fluxx is on our list because chaos is fun. The rules and goals change all the time, and every game is different. One minute you’re safe, the next a zombie drags your brain away. This one’s easy to teach and packs a lot of laughs into a small deck. We love to spring it on zombie newbies, just to see their faces when everything flips upside down. It’s perfect to fill short breaks or when your group can’t agree which longer zombie game to play.

1 Betrayal at House on the Hill

We picked this one because it nails the creepy zombie vibe and has a haunted house theme, just like Arkham Horror, but it’s a bit easier for new players. You even have the chance for zombies to turn up mid-game! Plus, there are lots of different scenarios—so replaying with friends never gets old, and there’s always a good story to shout about later.
